The sweet dried figs and sour orange juice in this Orange & Fig Spread go well together. This spread is very flexible and can be used on toast, crackers, or as a topping for desserts. It doesn't have any sugar, gluten, or dairy, so you can add it to your pantry without feeling bad about it.
Ingredients:
- 6 large dried figs
- 1 orange juiced and zested
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
Put orange juice, orange zest, water, and vanilla extract in a small saucepan
Then add the dried figs
Over medium-low heat, bring the mixture to a boil
Then, lower the heat to low and let it simmer for 10 minutes, or until the figs get soft
Take it off the heat and let it cool down a bit
Put the mixture in a food processor or blender and blend it until it is smooth
If the spread is too thick, add a little more water until it's the type of spread you want
Move the spread to a clean jar or container after mixing it, and let it cool completely before sealing it
You can keep it in the fridge for up to two weeks
